Position Overview

Data-Tele Contractors, Inc. is seeking a motivated Junior Designer to support the design and documentation of integrated IT cabling, audio visual, security, and low-voltage systems. This is an entry-level opportunity, and prior industry experience is not required. We provide hands-on training, technical mentorship, and exposure to real commercial projects from early design through construction and turnover.

The ideal candidate is organized, technically curious, comfortable learning new software and products, and interested in building a career at the intersection of engineering, architecture, construction, and technology.

Who should apply: Recent graduates and early-career candidates with degrees or coursework in engineering, architecture, construction management, drafting, technology, or a related field are strongly encouraged to apply. Revit experience is preferred; training will be provided.

What You Will Work On

  • Structured cabling, fiber, wireless, network-room, rack, and pathway layouts.

  • Conference room, collaboration, presentation, digital signage, and specialty AV systems.

  • Access control, CCTV, intercom, visitor management, and security device layouts.

  • Technology coordination with architectural, electrical, mechanical, furniture, and construction documents.

  • Commercial office, financial, professional-services, technology, education, and other workplace projects.


Daily Responsibilities

Responsibility
Prepare and update CAD and Revit drawings for IT, AV, security, and low-voltage systems.

Responsibility
Develop floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, device layouts, riser diagrams, rack elevations, details, schedules, and drawing notes.

Coordinate technology drawings with architectural, MEP, electrical, lighting, ceiling, furniture, millwork, and door/hardware information.

Work with engineers, senior designers, project directors, estimators, project managers, and field teams to incorporate technical direction.

Qualifications and Skills

Required

  • Interest in technology design, engineering, architecture, construction, or building systems.

  • Basic proficiency with AutoCAD or another technical drafting platform.

  • Ability to read plans, follow markups, manage details, and work accurately within established standards.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Organization, reliability, attention to detail, and willingness to ask questions.

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, deadlines, and drawing revisions.

  • Comfort working in a collaborative office and project-team environment.

Preferred

  • Working knowledge of Autodesk Revit; Revit experience is strongly preferred.

  • Degree, certificate, or coursework in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, architectural engineering, architecture, construction management, drafting, BIM, information technology, or a related field.

  • Internship, school project, or prior exposure to CAD/BIM, construction documents, low-voltage systems, AV, networking, or security.

  • Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, or construction collaboration platforms.

  • Interest in learning commercial technology products, system diagrams, and construction coordination.

Training and Support

  • Structured onboarding in company drafting standards, document control, and quality-control procedures.

  • Hands-on AutoCAD and Revit guidance from experienced designers and BIM leadership.

  • Technical training in IT cabling, AV systems, access control, CCTV, pathways, racks, power, and network requirements.

  • Manufacturer training and certification opportunities as the employee develops.

  • Mentorship through live projects, internal reviews, field visits, and coordination meetings.

  • A defined path to progress from Junior Designer to Designer and eventually into senior design, engineering, BIM, project management, or estimating roles.
